Alpha Doggy PlayCare is no ordinary day care for dogs. It is the product of over 18 years of dedicated research and development into dog training and canine behavioural management, conducted within a group of successful dog related businesses (The Alpha Canine Group). Every staff member has been handpicked and trained by us, in our methods, to the level of professional dog trainer. This means your dog will be in the best possible care at all times. Our trainers are experts in dog behaviour and communication and they live for dogs - they even bring their own dogs to play too!
Alpha Doggy PlayCare for social dogs of all ages
We offer social dogs a safe and fun environment to play and relax, supervised at all times by our highly skilled dog trainers. Doggy PlayCare is perfect if you can't or don't want to leave your dog(s) home alone when you go out to work or anywhere for that matter.
This service would be perfect for you if your dog does any of the following when you're not home:
- gets bored or needs someone to play with them
- loves company and attention
- escapes from the house / yard
- gets destructive - digging, chewing things it shouldn't, etc
- barks and annoys the neighbours
- is a puppy needing controlled and safe socialisation to all types of dogs
- needs to stay quiet after a vet visit
- needs medication or meals at set times
- needs a little extra training or to develop its manners
- its home environment isn't safe for some reason (ie. you're renovating)
Note: all dogs admitted into Alpha Doggy PlayCare must past the initial personality assessment to ensure everyone gets along when playing.
Assessment Day - Your dog's very first day with us
Alpha Doggy PlayCare provides a huge indoor play centre for dogs of all shapes and size, to run, play or just relax around other safe and sociable canines. The dogs are always supervised, but the aim is to have a vibrant community of dogs who all get along and play nicely together... and enjoy each other's company.
To ensure that all the dogs staying under our care are kept safe throughout the day, we need to assess each new dog entering this dynamic environment so we can learn about their likes, dislikes, activity levels and general behaviour around other dogs and people.
The full-day assessment process allows our professional staff to safely manage the new dogs in different scenarios and environments within the centre. To your dog it is like one activity after another, spaced throughout the day, where they can get to experience the relaxed atmosphere and play with dogs that we assess to be suitable playmates. On that note, our staff have their own dogs of varying breeds and ages that help us during the assessment process, allowing safe dog-to-dog interactions before we introduce them into suitable groups.
The assessment is conducted over a full day so as to not overload your dog with too many new sights, sounds and experiences all at once. We are mindful of the fact that a positive outcome on the assessment process involves helping individual dogs to adjust to various processes we have put in place to create a happy and vibrant play-care environment. Even if you are only ever intending leaving your dog for a half day stay, the initial assessment process will take a full day to complete.
At the end of the assessment day we provide owners with a detailed insight to their dog's activities throughout the day and how they coped with the overall process. A positive assessment means that your dog is welcome to visit us whenever it suits you.
If by chance your dog is not fully comfortable staying here with us throughout the day, we can discuss potential options for training, or repeated assimilation sessions where a strategy can be put in place to help your pet to become more settled in this environment. From previous experience, some dogs just take a little more time to adjust to different environments.
If your dog hasn't visited us for over 6 months, they will need to be re-assessed. This is to determine if they can still interact with the other dogs in the same way as before.
Note: You must book your dog in before 10am if it's their first visit so we can organise their assessment.
We offer basic grooming services ranging from a simple nail trim to clipping their coat and everything in between. When you pick your dog up, you will be suitably impressed.
We can give your dog a bath and blow dry during their stay with us, in between playing of course. Your dog will be squeaky clean and you won't end up wet! However, if you'd like to bath your own dog, the coin operated hydrobath is available for you to use whenever we're open.
Puppy play, socialisation & training
The critical period for puppy socialisation is between 8 - 16 weeks of age. During this time, your puppy's personality and traits are formed. Fears can become more ingrained during this time and positive experiences form a happy go lucky little pooch.
It's not easy to provide the right type of socialisation for your pup. You can't just throw a heap of puppies into a room and "let them sort it out themselves". If they are hassled or overwhelmed, or shy, they need to learn that they are safe and how to be more confident. If they are boisterous and a bit of a bully, they need to learn manners (if they approached the wrong dog in a pushy way, they could get into trouble, so it's best they learn not to in a safe environment rather than with unknown dogs at the park!).
Puppy socialisation needs to be supervised and controlled so they learn manners and so they can trust that they are safe. We do this by closely watching how the pups interact and stepping in when necessary. This gives them the best possible chance at being great members of society. It is important to continue socialising your puppy properly after the critical period ends to maintain their socialisation skills. Puppy socialisation does not replace training, so it's important to pair it with meaningful training that teaches your pup to listen to you and do as you ask - especially when they don't want to!
Dog training: obedience & manners
As we're supervising the dogs playing, we will of course intervene if a dog needs to be reminded to use their manners. However, if you'd like us to actively train your dog and work on any behavioural problems you may be experiencing, this service is for you. We will not only train your dog and fix any problems, but we'll show you how to maintain these new skills and communicate with your dog in a way that they actually understand - even when they don't want to listen!
